Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory Responses of the Patients with Schizophrenia and Mania

|
The purpose of this study was to investigate MMPI responses of the patients with schizophrenia and mania. The sample consisted of 35 patients with schizophrenia, 35 patients with mania diagnosed by the DSM-¥²-R(APA, 1987) for schizophrenia & manic episode and 35 normal subjects at department of neuropsychiatry in WonKwang university from April 1989 to July 1991. The MMPI profile of the patients was 8-6-3 type in the patients with schizophrenia and 9-6-8 type in the patients with mania. According to the analysis of variance and post-hoc comparison among the three group, D subscale was statistically signiffcant at the level of 1%, Hy and Sc were significant at the level of 5% each other. According to the discrinimant function analysis, rate of accuracy was 71.4% in the patients with schizophrenia from mania. Finally, code type of MMPI in the patients with schizophrenia and mania as well as the problem of the differential diagnosis and limits of this study were discussed.
